Moscow Virtuosi State Chamber Orchestra: “The Four Seasons”

On September 29, the Grand Hall of the Moscow Conservatory will host a concert by one of Russia’s most renowned ensembles—the Moscow Virtuosi State Chamber Orchestra, under the artistic direction of Vladimir Spivakov. The evening’s program will feature The Four Seasons by two composers, Antonio Vivaldi and Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky. These celebrated works, long considered part of the golden treasury of classical music, will be performed by the exceptional musicians of Moscow Virtuosi. The soloist will be Honored Artist of Russia Alexey Lundin.

Moscow Virtuosi is the only Russian orchestra to have released recordings on the renowned BMG Classics and RCA Red Seal labels. The ensemble has issued albums featuring not only works from the classical repertoire but also compositions by contemporary composers. Today, there are virtually no unexplored territories left on the world’s cultural map for the musicians. The orchestra has performed to great acclaim throughout Europe, as well as in the United States, Canada, Mexico, countries across South America, Israel, China, Korea, Japan, Turkey, and many other parts of the world. The touring geography of Moscow Virtuosi also encompasses every region of Russia and countries across the post-Soviet space.

Since its founding, the permanent Artistic Director and Principal Conductor of the Moscow Virtuosi Chamber Orchestra has been the outstanding violinist and conductor Vladimir Spivakov. Thanks to Maestro Spivakov and his many years of dedicated and meticulous work with the orchestra, Moscow Virtuosi has become recognized as one of the world’s finest chamber ensembles. At every performance, the musicians achieve what matters most: moving audiences emotionally and engaging them intellectually, even when listeners have little prior knowledge of classical music, giving them the joy of encountering musical masterpieces and inspiring them to return to the concert hall. As Maestro Spivakov himself says, “For us, creativity has become a necessity, and work has become an art which, in the words of Pablo Picasso, ‘washes the dust of everyday life off the soul.’”

Alexey Lundin is a violinist, concertmaster, and soloist with the Moscow Virtuosi State Chamber Orchestra. A winner of numerous international competitions, Lundin has collaborated with many of the most celebrated musicians of our time. In 1998, he became first violinist of the Mozart Quartet, which went on to establish a leading position in Russia’s musical life and won First Prize at the 6th International Dmitri Shostakovich String Quartet Competition in 2001.

Lundin is also the founder and Artistic Director of the International Classical Music Festival in Salacgrīva, Latvia, and the International Music Festival Valentin Berlinsky FOREVER!, dedicated to the outstanding cellist and founder of the Borodin Quartet.

The concert will be conducted by Arseniy Tkachenko, conductor of the National Philharmonic Orchestra of Russia.
