In Memory of Alexander Buzlov

On May 27, as part of the first CelloQwest Television Competition and Festival, a concert dedicated to one of the most outstanding cellists of our time, Alexander Buzlov (1983–2020), took place at the Rachmaninoff Hall. The performers included members of the competition jury: People's Artist of Russia Alexander Rudin, Presidential Prize laureate Alexander Ramm, and Moscow Conservatory professor Kirill Rodin, as well as the renowned Brahms Trio (Natalia Rubinstein, Graf Murzha, and Kirill Rodin). The concert also featured young cellists Daniil Gladkikh, Anna Fetri and Vladimir Miroshnikov, as well as accordionist Svyatoslav Lips. The piano parts were performed by Anna Odintsova and Tamara Oganesova.

The program featured works by Rachmaninoff, Shostakovich, Davydov, Messiaen, Pakhmutova and other composers.

The competition and festival is named after the outstanding cellist and Moscow Conservatory graduate Alexander Buzlov, whom Mstislav Rostropovich called “the number one cellist of the 21st century.” Alexander Buzlov tragically passed away at the height of his artistic career, leaving behind a profound example of devotion to art and, at the same time, a true 21st-century role model for young musicians.
