Carl Orff — Scenic Cantata Carmina Burana

On November 29, the Grand Hall of the Moscow Conservatory will host a performance of one of the most epic and mesmerizing works in the classical repertoire — Carl Orff’s scenic cantata Carmina Burana, performed by the State Kremlin Orchestra and the A.A. Yurlov State Academic Choral Capella of Russia.

Taking the podium will be one of Russia’s most sought-after young conductors, Konstantin Chudovsky.

The combination of medieval Latin texts and the composer’s extraordinary music has turned Carmina Burana into a true global phenomenon, captivating audiences every time with its immense and distinctive power.

The primal magic of the recurring rhythms in the opening chorus, “O Fortuna,” devoted to the fickle will of the goddess of fate, is familiar even to the most casual listener. The monumental opening passages of the cantata have become deeply embedded in popular culture, widely used in films and advertising, as well as at sporting events and spectacular large-scale shows.
