Yuri Bashmet and Konstantin Khabensky to Present Caligula in Almetyevsk for the First Time

On December 12, at the NEFTCHE House of Culture in Almetyevsk, renowned Russian theater and film actor and People’s Artist of Russia Konstantin Khabensky, together with one of the most decorated musicians of our time, People’s Artist of the USSR and Russia and Grammy Award winner Yuri Bashmet, will present their unique project Caligula.

The literary and musical experiment, as its creators call it, will be performed with the Moscow Soloists Chamber Ensemble, led by Artistic Director and Conductor Yuri Bashmet.

The program, which has received the Oleg Yankovsky Award and won the hearts of audiences both in Russia and abroad, brings together excerpts from Albert Camus’ play Caligula and fragments of Schubert’s Death and the Maiden Quartet in Mahler’s arrangement for string orchestra.

The second half of the evening will feature Camille Saint-Saëns’ celebrated Carnival of the Animals for narrator, two pianos, flute, clarinet, and strings—one of the composer’s best-known works.

Konstantin Khabensky is a renowned Russian theater and film actor, voice and dubbing artist, film director, producer, screenwriter, and public figure. He was named People’s Artist of Russia in 2012 and received the State Prize of the Russian Federation in 2019. Since 2021, he has served as Artistic Director of the Moscow Art Theatre named after A.P. Chekhov.

Yuri Bashmet is an outstanding Soviet and Russian violist, acclaimed conductor, educator, and public figure. He is a People’s Artist of the USSR and Russia, recipient of the State Prize of the USSR and four State Prizes of the Russian Federation, and a Grammy Award winner (2008).

Together with the Moscow Soloists, Bashmet has recorded several albums released by broadcasters around the world, including the BBC, Bavarian Radio, Radio France, and others. He has been awarded the Orders “For Merit to the Fatherland,” 2nd, 3rd, and 4th Class, as well as numerous other prestigious honors.
