W.A. Mozart — Requiem

On October 19, at the Grand Hall of the Moscow Conservatory, the Questa Musica Choir and Orchestra, conducted by renowned conductor Philipp Chizhevsky, will perform Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart’s Requiem, the most mysterious and dramatic masterpiece of the great composer.

“If Mozart did not write the Requiem, then the man who did was Mozart,” Beethoven is said to have remarked about this magnificent music.

Although Mozart himself composed only the first seven of the twelve movements of the monumental mass — the work was completed by his pupils after his death — the Requiem became the tragic culmination of the great composer’s creative legacy.

In the Requiem, which has become one of Mozart’s most celebrated masterpieces, the composer conveys the emotional power of the text with extraordinary expressive flexibility.

The alternation between scenes of a mortal pleading for divine forgiveness and the wrath of the Almighty, choral movements symbolizing the voice of the faithful and solo passages representing the voice of God, the subtlest shades of expression alongside immense sonic power — all of this creates an immediate and profound response in every listener.
