“The Father” is a realistic family story that grips the audience from the very beginning. Sergey Makovetsky and Marina Aleksandrova tell the story of a father and daughter struggling to come to terms with the changes taking place in a man who is rapidly beginning to lose control of his own mind.
What do you do when your consciousness begins to fail and the boundary between reality and imagination becomes blurred? How do you respond when the person closest to you suddenly seems to stop being themselves and loses their connection with reality?
The protagonist, André, is 80 years old. Once, long ago, he was a dancer. He lives in Paris with his daughter Anne and her husband Antoine.
Or perhaps André was an engineer, and his daughter lives in London with her new boyfriend, Pierre?
Why is André still wearing his pajamas, and why can’t he find his watch?! So many strange things are happening around him, and all these people are behaving so strangely!
Whatever the truth may be, André knows one thing for certain: he is still a strong man, and he will find a way to defend himself and prove that he is right. After all, he is not senile — everything is working perfectly fine…
