State Chamber Orchestra “Virtuosi of Moscow” — “Music of Love”

On March 19, the Grand Hall of the Moscow Conservatory hosted a concert by one of Russia’s most renowned ensembles — the State Chamber Orchestra “Virtuosi of Moscow,” led by artistic director Vladimir Spivakov. The legendary orchestra presented the program “Music of Love,” featuring works by Antonín Dvořák, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, Christopher Wilson, and Victor Herbert. The inspiring music of great composers, performed by one of the world’s finest orchestras, created an atmosphere of lightness and joy on a spring evening. The concert was conducted by Arsentiy Tkachenko, Deputy Artistic Director of the National Philharmonic Orchestra of Russia.

The program opened with the cheerful and romantic Suite for String Orchestra by Christopher Wilson, followed by three famous serenades: Serenade for String Orchestra by Victor Herbert, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart’s “Eine kleine Nachtmusik,” and Serenade for String Orchestra by Antonín Dvořák. The melodies of a serenade — literally “a clear evening” — are always filled with emotion, tenderness, warmth, and intimacy. Classical serenades traditionally celebrate beauty, love, and happiness, creating an uplifting mood for listeners. This is why they were often performed outdoors at social gatherings and festive occasions.
