Pyotr Vostokov

On September 26, Pyotr Vostokov’s Big Jazz Orchestra presented a new program dedicated to the classics of world jazz at the Grand Hall of the Moscow Conservatory. Jazz standards were performed both in their original versions, known around the world, and in unusual arrangements created by the orchestra’s musicians.

The artists also delighted the audience with brilliant improvisations and musical surprises — an essential part of every performance by the Big Jazz Orchestra led by Pyotr Vostokov. The golden age of jazz, the era of swing and wild dancing — an atmosphere sure to captivate everyone!

Pyotr Vostokov is one of the most talented musicians of his generation, who has rapidly risen to the forefront of the music scene. He discovered jazz at the age of 16, joining Vladimir Segal’s youth big band at the Central House of Culture of Railway Workers.

In 2009, he graduated from the Gnessin Russian Academy of Music with a degree in pop and jazz performance, studying ensemble performance with Alexander Oseichuk and orchestral performance with Anatoly Kroll. In 2006, he graduated from the Open World U.S.–Russia educational program, as part of which he performed at the Lionel Hampton International Jazz Festival in the United States.

In 2010, together with singer Darya Antonova, he founded the Big Jazz Orchestra, of which he has remained the Musical Director ever since. Together with the BJO, he regularly takes part in major Russian and international festivals, including Jazz in the Hermitage Garden, Triumph of Jazz, Koktebel Jazz Party and many others.

The orchestra performs at Russia’s leading philharmonic halls and concert venues, is a resident ensemble at Esse Jazz Club and Alexey Kozlov Club, and actively tours across Russia. The Big Jazz Orchestra’s debut album was recorded in 2017 at the legendary First Recording Studio at Mosfilm.

In recent years, the orchestra has participated in the production of several major television and online projects, including The Big Musical, Big Jazz and LAB with Anton Belyaev, as well as recording music for popular films and TV series such as House Arrest and Odessa Steamer.
