New Year Kaleidoscope with Johann Strauss

On December 25, the Grand Hall of the Moscow Conservatory will host a festive concert celebrating the musical legacy of the renowned Strauss family. As the New Year approaches, audiences will have the opportunity to enjoy the elegant masterpieces of this legendary dynasty, performed by musicians of the State Kremlin Orchestra.

Sparkling quadrilles, colorful mazurkas, romantic waltzes and enchanting overtures — the music of Johann Strauss Sr. and his no less celebrated son, Johann Strauss Jr., seems to have something to delight everyone. The concert will open with the dazzling and virtuoso overture to Johann Strauss Jr.’s operetta Die Fledermaus, shimmering like a diamond. Its sensual melody, captivating with its beauty, lyricism, lightness and overflowing joy of life, has long become a symbol of New Year’s Eve and the thrilling anticipation of the holiday.

The concert will also feature other works by the “King of Waltzes,” Johann Strauss Jr., including his famous Tales from the Vienna Woods and The Blue Danube. One of Russia’s most sought-after conductors, Konstantin Chudovsky, will take the podium. Don’t miss this exhilarating festive evening filled with the music of happiness!

The concert will be performed by the State Kremlin Orchestra of the Administrative Directorate of the President of the Russian Federation, led by Artistic Director and Chief Conductor Konstantin Chudovsky.

The orchestra comprises two ensembles: a symphony orchestra and a wind orchestra. Its repertoire features works of Russian and international classical music, compositions by contemporary composers, as well as popular music written for wind ensembles in a wide variety of genres.

Founded in 2019, the orchestra quickly established itself as one of the country’s leading musical ensembles. Its ranks include highly professional musicians with experience in Russia’s finest symphony orchestras, as well as young virtuosos, graduates of prestigious music institutions and winners of international competitions. In 2024, the orchestra received the BraVo Award in the “Orchestra of the Year” category.

Conductor Konstantin Chudovsky’s repertoire includes more than 30 opera and ballet productions, as well as symphonic works. In 2020, Maestro Chudovsky was appointed Artistic Director and Chief Conductor of the State Kremlin Orchestra. Since 2019, he has served as Chief Conductor of Ural Opera in Yekaterinburg, and since 2022, he has been a guest conductor at the State Academic Bolshoi Theatre of Russia. He is a recipient of the Triumph Youth Award (2011).
