Moscow Virtuosi Chamber Orchestra

On June 3, the Grand Hall of the Moscow Conservatory hosted a concert by one of Russia’s most renowned ensembles—the Moscow Virtuosi State Chamber Orchestra, under the artistic direction of Vladimir Spivakov. The legendary orchestra presented a program entitled A Sunny Evening, featuring celebrated works by Nino Rota, Leonard Bernstein, Astor Piazzolla, and Aldemaro Romero, which have long become part of the golden treasury of world classical music. The concert was conducted by Arseniy Tkachenko, conductor of the National Philharmonic Orchestra of Russia.

Moscow Virtuosi is the only Russian orchestra to have released recordings on the renowned BMG Classics and RCA Red Seal labels. The ensemble has issued albums featuring not only works from the classical repertoire but also compositions by contemporary composers. Today, there are virtually no unexplored territories left on the world’s cultural map for the musicians—the orchestra’s concerts have been met with triumph across Europe, as well as in the United States, Canada, Mexico, countries throughout South America, Israel, China, Korea, Japan, Turkey, and many other parts of the world. The touring geography of Moscow Virtuosi also encompasses every region of Russia and countries across the post-Soviet space.

Since its founding, the permanent Artistic Director and Principal Conductor of the Moscow Virtuosi Chamber Orchestra has been the outstanding violinist and conductor Vladimir Spivakov. It is thanks to Maestro Spivakov, his many years of dedicated and meticulous work with the orchestra, that Moscow Virtuosi has become recognized as one of the world’s finest chamber orchestras.

In every performance, Moscow Virtuosi succeeds in achieving what matters most: moving listeners emotionally and engaging them intellectually, regardless of their musical background; giving them the joy of encountering musical masterpieces; and inspiring them to return to the concert hall again. As Maestro Spivakov himself says, “For us, creativity has become a necessity, and work has become an art which, in the words of Pablo Picasso, ‘washes the dust of everyday life off the soul.’”
