About the concert
On April 9, the long-awaited premiere of the unique film concert “Eduard Artemyev’s Cinema”, dedicated to the work of the renowned composer, took place.
The audience had the opportunity to enjoy beloved melodies from such films as Solaris, Stalker, A Slave of Love, At Home Among Strangers, a Stranger Among Our Own, An Unfinished Piece for Mechanical Piano, Kin, The Barber of Siberia, Doctor Zhivago, Sibiriada, Legend No. 17, and many others. Artemyev’s music was performed against the backdrop of the most memorable scenes from famous films featuring a constellation of outstanding Russian actors, including Oleg Tabakov, Nikita Mikhalkov, Oleg Yankovsky, Vyacheslav Tikhonov, Elena Solovey, Oleg Menshikov, Alexander Kaidanovsky, Chulpan Khamatova, Nonna Mordyukova, Anatoly Solonitsyn, Rodion Nakhapetov, Danila Kozlovsky, and others.
For the filming, the Museum of Cinema specially digitized original posters from films that form part of the golden collection of Russian cinema. In addition to the brilliant music performed by exceptional musicians, viewers were treated to a heartfelt conversation between Eduard Artemyev and his friends: actor and film director Alexander Adabashyan, conductor Sergei Skripka, and pianist Basiniya Shulman. The film “Eduard Artemyev’s Cinema” was made available on IVI as part of Gazprombank’s “Musical Living Room” project on April 9 at 8:00 p.m.
More than 130 people took part in the production, including the composer himself; musicians of the Russian State Symphony Orchestra of Cinematography under the direction of Sergei Skripka; soloists of the Moscow Chamber Choir conducted by Vladimir Minin; Aigul Akhmetshina, a soloist of London’s Royal Opera House, Covent Garden; international competition laureate and pianist Basiniya Shulman; Honored Artist of Russia and cellist Boris Andrianov; musical theatre stars Natalia Bystrova and Dmitry Ermak; The Voice winner Daria Antonyuk; and young singer Polina Stembolskaya. The conductor was People’s Artist of Russia Sergei Skripka. This grand musical tapestry, woven from the melodies of a living classic, transports audiences into Eduard Artemyev’s extraordinary musical universe.
Artemyev gained widespread recognition through his work in cinema. He composed music for more than 200 feature films, documentaries, and animated films. His collaborations with directors Andrei Tarkovsky (Solaris, Mirror, Stalker), Nikita Mikhalkov (At Home Among Strangers, a Stranger Among Our Own, A Slave of Love, Burnt by the Sun, The Barber of Siberia, Sunstroke, and others), and Andrei Konchalovsky (The Inner Circle, The Odyssey, The Nutcracker in 3D, The Postman’s White Nights, Sin, and others) were particularly successful.
