An Evening with Pyotr Vostokov

On November 5, a concert by the Peter Vostokov Big Jazz Orchestra will take place in the Great Hall of the Moscow Conservatory!

Peter Vostokov is one of the most talented musicians of the younger generation, who have rapidly risen to the top of the musical hierarchy. Peter became interested in jazz at the age of 16, joining Vladimir Segal’s youth big band at the Central House of Culture for Railway Workers. He graduated from the pop‑jazz department of the Russian Academy of Music named after Gnesin. Gnesin (class of the ensemble under A.V. Oseichuk, class of the orchestra under A.O. Kroll) in 2009. In 2006, he became a graduate of the American‑Russian educational program Open World, as part of which he performed at the Lionel Hampton International Jazz Festival (USA).

In 2010, together with the singer Darya Antonova, he founded the Big Jazz Orchestra (BJO), of which he is still the musical director. Together with the BDO, it regularly participates in major Russian and international festivals, such as “Jazz in the Hermitage Garden,” “Jazz Triumph,” Koktebel Jazz Party, and many others; it performs on the country’s main philharmonic and concert stages, is a resident of the “Essay” jazz club and the Alexei Kozlov club, and actively tours across Russia. The debut record of the Big Jazz Orchestra was created in 2017 at the famous 1st “Tonstudio” at Mosfilm. Over the past few years, the Orchestra has taken part in the filming of several major TV and online projects (The Big Musical, Big Jazz, LAB with Anton Belyaev) and in recording music for popular films and TV series (Home Arrest, The Odessa Steamboat).

In 2020, Pyotr Vostokov was named Musician of the Year by Radio Jazz 89.1 and received the All Colors of Jazz award.
