KHIBLA GERZMAVA

On November 10, the Grand Hall of the Moscow Conservatory will host a solo concert by renowned opera singer Khibla Gerzmava. A People’s Artist of Russia and a People’s Artist of Abkhazia, Khibla is today one of the most sought-after Russian singers on the international stage.

The opera diva will perform accompanied by the State Chamber Orchestra “Virtuosi of Moscow”, conducted by Vladimir Lande. The concert will also feature Igor Golovatenko, Honored Artist of Russia and principal baritone of the Bolshoi Theatre and Novaya Opera.

The event will take place as part of the 18th International Classical Music Festival “Khibla Gerzmava Invites…” and will be a spectacular continuation of the series of concerts marking the singer’s anniversary year, which began with a festive gala performance at the Kremlin Palace.

Khibla Gerzmava is a stylish, passionate and virtuosic singer who is equally compelling in classical arias, jazz improvisations and traditional romances. The acclaimed opera diva captivates audiences not only with her impeccable technique and distinctive timbre, but also with her exceptional acting skills and thoughtful interpretation of every character.

Her first name means “golden-eyed” in Abkhazian, while her surname translates as “she-wolf.” She is renowned for her uncompromising attention to every aspect of her art — from vocal technique and dramatic interpretation to her stage appearance. This dedication has helped her win major international competitions and win the hearts of audiences around the world.

Gerzmava is the recipient of numerous prestigious awards, including Verdi Voices (Italy, 1993), the Francisco Viñas International Singing Competition (Spain, 1994), the Golden Mask (Russia, 2010 and 2016), the Golden Orpheus, Casta Diva, Triumph and many others. In 1994, she became the only vocalist in the history of the International Tchaikovsky Competition to receive its Grand Prix.

The State Chamber Orchestra “Virtuosi of Moscow” is one of today’s most acclaimed musical ensembles. Founded in 1979 by virtuoso violinist Vladimir Spivakov, the orchestra brought together some of the finest musicians in the Russian capital.

The ensemble continues its demanding yet inspired creative work, maintaining the highest standards of performance that have made the name “Virtuosi of Moscow” synonymous with excellence. Each musician is a remarkable individual, while together they form an ensemble of international stature.
